Lake Worth United Methodist Church, Azle Avenue Location.

A Brief History of Lighthouse Fellowship

A church is not a building, it is the people.

Our church was founded in 1937-1938 on the shores of Lake Worth as
Lake Worth Methodist Episcopal Church South
.

The first building, built in 1938, was located at 3909 Merrett Drive in Lake Worth,
where it still stands today.

On August 2, 1964 Lake Worth Methodist Church opened a new sanctuary and classrooms on
a 5-acre site where they relocated at 6401 Azle Avenue. The relocation was due to space needs
and noise problems from the air base.

In 1968 our name changed again with the merger of the Methodist Church and the
Evangelical United Brethren Church. We became Lake Worth United Methodist Church.

On December 12, 2003, after being unable to purchase 35 more acres in Lake Worth, our land
was sold as a pivotal part of the Lake Worth Towne Crossing Center, where Target and related
retail space reside today.

Our last worship services on Azle Avenue were held on Easter 2004 and the next Sunday we started
worshipping at Boswell High School as Lighthouse Fellowship – A United Methodist Community of Faith.
We worshipped at Boswell for 1 year, 8 months, and 4 weeks.

Our first services at 7200 Robertson Road were held on January 22, 2006.
Learn more about our Robertson Road site.

Our name change occurred because we were moving out of Lake Worth and due to a desire to be viewed
as not attached to any one community. We have people from the region who attend, including Lake Worth,
Fort Worth, Azle, Lakeside, Saginaw, River Oaks, Blue Mound, Aledo and more. The lighthouse has been
the symbol unique to our church for about 13 years and was a natural for use in the new name.
